Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the second nationwide polio campaign for 2022 at the home of the Prime Minister,
pledging that the government will take all measures to eradicate this debilitating disease. The vaccination campaign will be carried out from 23 to 27 May across Pakistan.
The goal of the campaign is to reach around 43.3 million children under the age of five with the life-saving polio vaccine.
About 340,000 frontline polio workers will deliver polio vaccines to people’s homes across the country.
During the planned campaign, children aged 6 to 59 months will also be given a dose of Vitamin A drops.
The Prime Minister launched the polio eradication campaign by giving vaccine drops to some children and expected
that the polio vaccination would reach all eligible children, especially in the areas at risk of polio in Pakistan.
At a cabinet meeting in Islamabad,
he instructed the federal, provincial and provincial governments to address the challenges of continuing child
disappearances, rejections and fake fingerprints during the campaign.
He expressed concern about three new polio cases reported in North Waziristan and feared the spread of the polio virus to other parts of the country and across the border.
“I urge all parents and caregivers to vaccinate their children, rather than hiding them in all vaccination campaigns or refusing to take the necessary drops.
It is important to realize that the polio virus is still present in our environment and no child is safe until all children are truly vaccinated.”
